TWO KINGDOM PARABLES OF GREAT VALUE
TWO KINGDOM PARABLES OF GREAT VALUE
The Parable of The Hidden Treasure and The Parable of The Pearl of Great Price Text: Matthew 13:44-46
There are two kingdom parables that speak about an object of great value in these three verses: The Parable of The Hidden Treasure and The Parable of The Pearl Of Great Price. Let’s Look at Them!
I. THE PARABLE OF THE HIDDEN TREASURE. Matthew 13:44
A. This Treasure Is of Great Wealth.
Matthew 13:44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field;”
1. It Is a Treasure That Is Valuable “The kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure” Matthew 13:44 The word translated “treasure” means “something precious” (Trench). Malachi 3:16
2. It Is a Treasure That Is Veiled “Like unto treasure hid in a field”
Matthew 13:44 The value of the treasure is not apparent to the world. It is “hidden” from the world. They value secular things but not spiritual things. They do not perceive spiritual values or spiritual understanding.
I Corinthians 2:9
B. THIS TREASURE IS A GREAT FIND. Matthew 13:44
“The kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth:
1. This Treasure Was Found by Providence “Which when a man hath found” Matthew 13:44, Isaiah 53:6 The finding emphasizes the grace of God in salvation.
2. This Treasure Was Found by Perceiving “When a man hath found, he hideth, selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field” (Matthew 13:44) This man perceived the value of the treasure and acted accordingly. So many hear the Gospel and do not see any value in it. And many do not see the value of each person.
3. This Treasure After Finding Was Protected. “Hideth, selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field” Matthew 13:44
C. This Treasure Came with A Great Cost Matthew 13:44
“and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
I Peter 1:18-19
1. This Treasure Was Purchased Made with Great Joy! “For joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field” Matthew 13:44 To get enough money to buy the field, the man had to sell all that he had.
Hebrews 12:2
2. This Treasure Was Purchased Was Made at A Great Cost!
“Selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field” Matthew 13:44
Mark 8:36-37 This is the message. Jesus Sacrificing all for eternity of others is no sacrifice at all, He did “joy” because of the great Love for us.
II. THE PARABLE OF THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE
Matthew 13:45-46, Revelation 21:21
A. The Pearl of Great Price Came After Seeking Matthew 13:45-46,
Luke 19:10
1. Seeking The Pearl of Great Substance. “Seeking goodly pearls” Matthew 13:45 and unlike other gems or precious stones, the pearl is produced by a living organism.
2. Seeking The Pearl of Great Superiority. “Goodly pearls” Matthew 13:45
3. Seeking Pearls with Great Success. “When he had found one pearl of great price” Matthew 13:46
B. The Pearl of Great Price Came After a Great Sacrifice Matthew 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. To buy the pearl, the merchant man had to make a great sacrifice for the pearl was one “of great price. Jesus Already Paid Your Way To Heaven Isaiah 55:1 Notice What Jesus Paid:
1. The Sacrifice Is Great in Size. “Went and sold all that he had”
Matthew 13:46, Acts 20:28
2. The Sacrifice Was Great in Support. The answer is that every sinner has a soul that is worth much. “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul” (Mark 8:36) tells us that the soul is extremely valuable. How a person lives does not change the value of the soul. Christ came into the world seeking the most valuable product in the world, namely, the soul of man. That supports the great price Christ paid for the soul. Jesus gave His All! Salvation is a free gift. Since Jesus Owns Us:
I Corinthians 6:19-20 We Must Ask What Have We Gave? Song: I gave, I gave My life for thee, What hast thou giv'n for Me? I gave, I gave My life for thee, What hast thou giv'n for Me? We Are Jesus’ Purchase Possession! You Say I Want More Like Jesus and live His Kingdom Way? Are you willing to Give your All?
