THE TRIAL OF JESUS CHRIST A MOCKERY OF JUSTICE Matthew 27:11-26

INTRODUCTION: Nothing - absolutely nothing - compares to the greatest miscarriage of justice in human history as that of the trial of Jesus Christ. This wasn’t justice, this was Jesus stepping into the jaws of wickedness for your salvation!  Let me say it clearly: The Trial was not a trial - it was a sham spectacle.  The Trial was not justice - it was jealousy in judicial robes. The Trial was not a courtroom - it was a crime scene. The Trial was not a verdict - it was a vendetta. The Trial was not truth - it was treachery.  And yet, in the middle of the madness, in the middle of the mockery, in the middle of the injustice, Jesus stood silent, sovereign, and submitted - not because He was defeated, but because He was determined. Determined to save you. Determined to redeem you. Determined to take your place.  Matthew 27:11-26 is not merely a courtroom scene; it is the collision of heaven’s holiness with humanity’s hypocrisy. It is the moment when Truth is tried, Love is lynched, and Holiness is handed over. And yet - this passage is not just history. It is our story. Because every time a person chooses sin over the Savior, Barabbas over Jesus, darkness over light, they reenact the same tragic choice. Today, we walk verse by verse through this text. We will feel the tension. We will hear the accusations. We will see the injustice. And by God’s grace - we will be changed.

I. THE SILENCE OF THE SOVEREIGN SAVIOR Matthew 27:11-14

A. The King’s Identity Declared Matthew 27:11. The Trial was not an honest hearing - it was a hostile ambush. The Trial was not a legal proceeding - it was a lawless plot. Through-out this sermon I going also give you reason Why The Trial Of Jesus Christ Was A Mockery Of Justice! Reason #1 - A Predetermined Plot, Not a Pursuit of Truth Matthew 26:3–4; 27:1 The religious leaders had already decided Jesus must die. They weren’t seeking truth - they were staging a trap.

B. The King’s Innocence Displayed Matthew 27:12-13 His silence fulfills: Isaiah 53:7   Reason #2 - A Political Performance, Not a Legal Proceeding Pilate wasn’t interested in truth - he was interested in keeping his position.

C. The King’s Integrity Demonstrated Matthew 27:14 The Trial was not a lawful examination - it was a lawless execution. Reason #3 - A Corrupt Collaboration Between Religion and Government Matthew 27:1–2 Religion without righteousness, Government without godliness = A crucified Christ.

II. THE SCHEMES OF THE SINISTER SINNERS Matthew 27:15-23

A. The Custom That Confused Matthew 27:15-16

Rome allowed one prisoner to be released at Passover. Enter Barabbas - a murderer, rebel, and thief. And here is another injustice: The Trial was not a fair evaluation - it was a fabricated accusation. Reason #4 - A Violation of Jewish Law at Every Level Jesus’ trial broke every rule.

B. The Counsel That Convicted Matthew 27:17 The Trial was not a decision - it was a deception. Reason #5 - A Manipulated Mob, Not a Measured Jury Matthew 27:20-23

C. The Conspiracy That Corrupted Matthew 27:18-20 The religious leaders persuaded the crowd. This persuasion exposes another injustice: The Trial was not a moment of clarity - it was a moment of cowardice.

Reason #6 - A Cowardly Capitulation by Pilate Matthew 27:24

D. The Crowd That Cried Matthew 27:21-23

They shout: “Barabbas!” Then louder: “Crucify Him!”  Notice the Mob Mentality for Murder! Reason #7 - False Accusations Supported by Fabricated Witnesses Matthew 26:59-60

III. THE SENTENCE OF THE SUBMISSIVE SUBSTITUTE Matthew 27:24-26 A. The Washing That Was Worthless Matthew 27:24

Pilate washes his hands. But water cannot cleanse guilt. This reveals another injustice: The Trial was not a pursuit of justice - it was a performance of injustice. Reason #8 - A Miscarriage of Morality: Choosing Barabbas Over Jesus

B. The Words That Were Weighty Matthew 27:25 They meant it as a curse. God turned it into a blessing. But it reveals another injustice: There are people who are so evil they will, will your thinking they are doing god a favor! Reason #9 - A Mock Trial with a Prewritten Sentence

C. The Whipping That Was Wretched Matthew 27:26 Jesus is scourged. This leads to the final reason: The Trial was not a moment of law - it was a moment of lunacy. Reason #10 - A Divine Design Hidden Inside Human Depravity Acts 2:23; Isaiah 53

CONCLUSION: THE CHOICE THAT STILL CONFRONTS US. Pilate asked the question that echoes through eternity: “What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?” You must answer. You cannot wash your hands of Him. You cannot ignore Him. You cannot remain neutral. John 12:48 Now, I ask this question with all my heart! “WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH JESUS WHICH IS CALLED CHRIST?”  Now know who Jesus is determines what you do!  He is LIAR, LUNATIC, OR LORD!

A.) YOU ARE EITHER GOING TO BE FOR HIM OR AGAINST HIM. Matthew 12:30                                B.) YOU MUST CROWN HIM OR CRUCIFY HIM.

Matthew 12:30, Hebrews 6:6

C.) YOU MUST CONFESS HIM OR DENY HIM Matthew 10:32-33

Romans 10:11 WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH JESUS WHICH IS CALLED CHRIST? Jesus is standing on trial still. Choose Jesus today. The trial was a mockery of justice - but it became the miracle of grace.
