THE MAN WHO DARED TO DO RIGHT
THE MAN WHO DARED TO DO RIGHT
(Father's Day Message)
Text: II Kings 18:1-8 Background Reading: II Chronicles 29:1-36,
II Kings Chapters 18, 19, 20 and Isaiah 38:9-22.
Introduction: The name Hezekiah means Jehovah strengthens, and it is evident by Hezekiah’s life that God was the one who strengthened Hezekiah to be the one who dared to do right. There are some interesting stories concerning Hezekiah
1. Hezekiah’s sun dial goes backward (II Kings 20:8-11).
2. Hezekiah’s water tunnel (II Kings 20:20)
3. Hezekiah prayer for protection and victory over the Assyrians - The Angel of the Lord killed 185,000 Assyrians in one night.
4. Hezekiah’s prayer for life which added 15 years to his life
(II Kings 20:1-6). Hezekiah knew that wrong is wrong, even though everyone does it, and right is right even if no one does it. We must know that “Periodic Christianity is Perpetual Hypocrisy,” and “Responsibility is our response and God’s ability”. We need to act and react by the power of God and the persuasion of God’s Word. Let us learn from the life of Hezekiah:
I. HEZEKIAH CHOSE THE RIGHT MOTIVE.
II Kings 18:3, Joshua 24:15
II. HEZEKIAH PUT THINGS IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
II Kings 18:4, II Chronicles 29:16-18
A.) Put First Things First!
Matthew 6:33 Example: Hebrews 11:24-27 Moses
III. HEZEKIAH CALLED THINGS BY THE RIGHT NAME.
II Kings 18:4 “and he called it Nehushtan.” Nehushtan= “only a piece of brass.” Isaiah 5:20
IV. HEZEKIAH PUT HIS CONFIDENCE IN THE RIGHT PERSON. II Kings 18:5, Ephesians 3:12
The blood of Christ makes us safe; the Word of God makes us sure; and the Spirit of God makes us strong.
V. HEZEKIAH WALKED IN THE RIGHT PATH. II Kings 18:6
HEZEKIAH ENJOYED THE RIGHT KIND OF SUCCESS.
II Kings 18:7, Joshua 1:8
VII. HEZEKIAH SHOWED THE RIGHT KIND OF INDEPENDENCE. II Kings 18:7, Daniel 3:18
Conclusion: So much good and yet, A Sad Legacy II Kings 20:16-19 He did his job as king well, but He left his family out! He was concerned for his time on earth but not his children. He did right in so many good things as king yet, he failed his family. Will You Dare to Do Right? Life is short; death is sure; sin the cause; and Christ is the cure! Dare to do right. Trust Christ as your Savior and Lord and live by God’s Holy Word. Salvation Is Not a Goal to Achieve but a Gift to Receive; Not a Performance but a Person. Jesus Christ! Ephesians 2:8-10 When I got married, I did not get the Married Religion. I got a Wife! When I got Saved, I did not get a Religion I Got Jesus Christ. John 1:12, Isaiah 7:9
