- THE MALACHI DAD
- Malachi 4:6
THE MALACHI DAD
Malachi in Hebrew means "My Messenger" or "My Angel. “Malachi 4:6 And He shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
INTRODUCTION: A Malachi Dad is a man whose heart is turned, whose home is transformed, and whose heritage is redeemed by the restoring power of God. Malachi closes the Old Testament not with a command, not with a comfort, but with a cry- A cry for fathers to come home. A cry for children to come close. A cry for hearts to be healed. Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And God says: “Before I send the Messiah, I will send a message that turns hearts.” This is the call of a Malachi Dad. God ends the Old Testament by calling father’s home. This is the call of a Malachi Dad.
I. THE CONDITION OF THE CULTURE - A GENERATION IN TROUBLE Malachi 4:1-3
THE PROBLEM OF A BROKEN GENERATION
Cold Worship - They brought sacrifices but not sincerity.
Corrupt Priests - Leaders who lectured but didn’t live it.
Crumbling Homes - Fathers absent, mothers exhausted, children aimless.
Cynical Hearts - Malachi 3:14-15 So Malachi describes a nation where: Worship was empty, Leaders were compromised, Families were fractured, Children were wandering, Fathers were missing, Sound familiar?
A. The World Is Full of Fathers Who Are Physically Present but Emotionally Missing. Some Fathers are Physically and Emotionally
Missing / AWOL !
B. The Enemy Attacks the Home Because the Home Shapes the Heart
Satan doesn’t fear a big church. He fears a strong father, a praying father, and a present father. He fears a Malachi Dad.
C. When Fathers Fall, Families Fracture. Malachi says the land becomes “smitten with a curse.” Malachi 4:6 “lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” Not because God hates us - But because fatherlessness breaks what God designed to bless. But God refuses to let the story end in ashes.
II. THE COMING OF A MESSENGER - GOD SENDS A FIRESTARTER
THE PROMISE OF A BURNING MESSENGER: God says He will send Elijah - Not the man, but the mantle. Not the prophet, but the pattern.
Luke 1:16-17. And today, God is raising up Malachi Dads - Men who carry the same fire. Men, We are God’s Messengers For This Generation, Our Children, and Our Children’s Children!
III. THE CALL OF THE MALACHI DAD - TURN YOUR HEART
Malachi 4:6 THE POWER OF A TURNED HEART: The verse does NOT say: “Turn the hands of the fathers, “Turn the habits of the fathers, “Turn the hobbies of the fathers It says: “Turn the HEART of the fathers” Because the heart is the hinge of the home. A. A Malachi Dad Has a Turned Heart
A heart that is: Softened by Grace, Strengthened by Scripture, Steered by the Spirit, Stirred by Compassion
B. A Malachi Dad Has a Tender Home. When a father’s heart turns: Conversations deepen, Conflicts shorten, Compassion widens, Christ becomes central
C. A Malachi Dad Leaves a Transformed Heritage. A Malachi Dad doesn’t just raise children - He raises champions. He doesn’t just build a house - He builds a heritage. Ephesians 6:4 This is Malachi 4:6. Not a new house. Not a new hobby. Just a new heart direction.
D. A Malachi Dad Escapes a Cursed Lineage. Malachi 4:6 “lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” Fathers and children who know and serve God can avoid a Curse Life. Father and children who refuse to know God and serve God will invite a Curse Life! Hebrew Word for “Curse” in Malachi 4:6 is cherem Meaning Specific “devotion to destruction” or “ban,” with the implication of total annihilation.
IV. PRACTICAL STEPS - HOW TO LIVE AS A MALACHI DAD
1. Show Up: Your presence is more powerful than your perfection.
Malachi 4:6
2. Speak Life: Your words become your children’s world. Saturate Your Children’s World with God’s Word! Deuteronomy 6:6-9
3. Seek God: A father cannot lead his home if he does not follow his God. Matthew 6:33
4. Stay Humble: Kids don’t need a superhero - They need a surrendered man.
Another Practical Blueprint for A Malachi Dad is: Present - He shows up. Prayerful - He lifts up. Patient - He waits up. Playful - He lightens up. Protective - He stands up. Purposeful - He steps up. Persistent - He never gives up.
Conclusion: Every earthly father fails. Every earthly father falls short. But there is a Heavenly Father who never walked out, never gave up, never turned away. And He says today: “Come home.” The greatest Father’s Day gift is not a tie, not a tool, not a grill, not a gadget - It is a turned heart. And the only One who can turn a heart is the One who gave His Son to give us a new one. Make us Malachi Dads - men whose hearts burn for You and beat for our children.
