THE GODLY MAN (Father's Day Sermon)
Text: Ephesians 5:21-6:4
Introduction: On Mother’s Day I spoke to you on the subject: “THE GODLY WOMEN” and during that sermon I said I was going to be speaking Lord willing on Father’s Day on the subject: “THE GODLY MAN”!
The Home and Family is under satanic attack:
A.) The Sinful Normality of Immorality
B.) The Perverting of The Two Sexes
C.) The Satanic Distortion and Devaluation of Marriage and The Home. Genesis 2:22-24, Ephesians 5:31, Psalm 68:5-6
I. THE GODLY MAN WILL LOVE HIS FAMILY!
There are some illustrations given to us in Ephesians 5 which tell a man how he is to love his family. Three times in these verses it tells a man to love his wife. Ephesians 5:25 “Husbands, love your wives,” Ephesians 5:28 “So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies.” Ephesians 5:33 “Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself;”
A.) The Godly Man’s Love Is Selfless and Sacrificial!
In verse 25 he says, “Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church.” Note the two Biblical illustrations given!
1. He Will Love His Wife as Christ Also Loved the Church. Ephesians 5:25
2. He Will Love His Wife as His Own Body. Ephesians 5:28, I Peter 3:7
COMPREHENSION! “Dwell with them according to knowledge”.
COURTESY! “Giving honor”
COLLABORATION! “As being heirs together of the grace of life.”
B.) The Godly Man’s Love Is Passionate!
Most marriages in America need two funerals and one wedding,
where both the husband and the wife die to themselves and come alive to Jesus Christ.
C.) The Godly Man’s Love Is Purifying! Ephesians 5:26-27
D.) The Godly Man’s Love Is Protecting! Ephesians 5:28
E.) The Godly Man’s Love Is Providing! Ephesians 5:29
II. THE GODLY MAN WILL LEAD HIS FAMILY!
You are the spiritual leader of your family. You are the one who sets the pace in your family. What is involved in a man being the leader of his family? Leadership rides on some other ships.
A.) LORDSHIP Ephesians 5:20-23
You cannot exercise authority unless you are under authority.
B.) PARTNERSHIP Ephesians 5:21
C.) HEADSHIP Ephesians 5:23, I Timothy 5:8
III. THE GODLY MAN WILL LIFT HIS FAMILY!
A.) Sanctified PURITY Ephesians 5:25-27
B.) Sustained PRIORITY Ephesians 5:31
C.) Steadfast LOYALTY Ephesians 5:30-33 LOVE and RESPECT
D.) Solid Security Ephesians 5:31
1. The Priority of a Godly Marriage
2. The Permanence of a Godly Marriage “shall be joined unto his wife.” (Ephesians 5:31) Matthew 19:6, Mark 10:8-93.
3. The Purpose of a Godly Marriage
a. The Purpose of ONENESS Genesis 2:24 LEAVE, CLEAVE, RECEIVE
Ephesians 5:31 “and they two shall be one flesh.”
b. The Purpose of TRAINING Ephesians 6:4, Proverbs 22:6
YOU CAN NOT TEACH WHAT YOU DO NOT KNOW AND YOU CAN NOT LEAD WHERE YOU DO NOT GO!
Conclusion: THE GODLY MAN IS THAT YOU?
Men, it all starts in the family. If your faith doesn’t work at home, it doesn’t work anywhere. The family is either like a sand dune or a sculpture. A sand dune has no shape or design to it. It just comes about by whatever environmental forces play upon it. It has no real foundation. Tomorrow’s wind will change the shape and the look of the sand dune. But a sculpture has design. There is intention. There is a goal. There is a purpose. Your family will either be a sand dune swept and blown around the winds of culture and circumstances, or your family will be a sculpture with design and purpose and goal to it. I think it all comes down to what kind of man you decide to be. It is time for obedience to the Word of the Lord.
