Hebrews 11:1
THE FAITH OF OUR FATHERS!
THE FAITH OF OUR FATHERS!
Hebrews 11:1, Hebrews 11:6 and Hebrews 12:1-2
Introduction: Matthew 9:29, Hebrews 10:38
In Hebrews chapter 11 God Word list past heroes of Faith to encourage, motivate and inspire each of us to a greater faith in Christ. There are 16 named heroes of Faith. Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jepthah, David Samuel: All serve as forefathers and foremothers of our faith! There are also the Unknown and Unnamed Heroes of The Faith in The Bible. It seems the writer of Hebrews realized that space was running out to list names so he decided to start grouping the heroes of Faith. He ends the list with three groups:
1. The Prophets
2. Women who receive their dead raised to life.
3. Others were tortured, cruel mocking’s and scourging’s, bonds and imprisonment, stoned, sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; Hebrews 11:38 “Of whom the world was not worthy:” SONG: Faith of our fathers, living still, in spite of dungeon, fire, and sword; Oh, how our hearts beat high with joy Whene’er we hear that glorious Word!
REFRAIN: Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death.
NOTE: Everyone has some kind of faith everyday of their lives.
Whether you are a Saint or Sinner, everyone has faith in something. Our whole world operates around some kind of faith. Little faith will bring you to heaven, and great faith will bring heaven to your soul. In our daily lives, we have faith in our cars, jobs, chairs, banks, etc. etc.; and we don’t even realize it. By faith we make a deposit. By faith we accept a check. By faith we pay an insurance premium. By faith we undergo an operation. Our whole life is by faith. As a Christian it is my responsibility to encourage everyone in my sphere of influence to have faith in God and His Holy Word. There are five types of Faith in the Bible:
1.) Historical Or Intellectual Faith James 2:19
2.) System Of Doctrine Jude 3
3.) First Faith in Jesus Christ for Salvation
Acts 16:3, Romans 10:9-10, Romans 10:10, Romans 10:13
4.) Daily Living Christian Faith Romans 1:17
5.) Dead Faith James 2:17, James 2:20
I. THE DESCRIPTION OF FAITH
A.) Faith Is Substance Hebrews 11:1, II Corinthians 4:18
B.) Faith Is Evidence Hebrews 11:1
C.) Faith Is Understanding Hebrews 11:3, Hebrews 3:12, John 7:17
II. THE DYNAMICS OF FAITH
A.) Faith Gives God Pleasure Hebrews 11:6
B.) And in Return God Gives Us Treasure Hebrews 11:6, Psalm 37:4, Psalm 84:11, I Timothy 6:17
III. THE DEVELOPMENT OF FAITH
1.) By Believing God’s Book
Hebrews 12:1 What the “wherefore “is there for in Hebrews 11:1 is referring to chapter eleven’s list of those in God’s Hall of Faith. These Bible stories and verses help us to have great faith. Romans 10:17
2.) By Forsaking Sin Hebrews 12:1-2, Acts 20:21
3.) By Using The Faith That You Have Hebrews 12:1 “So let us run”, James 2:17, James 2:20

Invitation: John 3:15-16, John 3:18, John 3:36
It is not the quantity of your faith, and it is not the quality of your faith, but it is the position of your faith that will bring you to heaven. John 14:6
