THE COSTLY KISS! THE KISS THAT COST TOO MUCH!
The Man That Kiss the Door to Heaven and Went to Hell!
Matthew 26:14-16
ONE SENTENCE SERMON THESIS: Judas teaches us that the greatest tragedies begin with the smallest trades—when we exchange the eternal worth of Christ for the temporary wages of this world. Matthew 26:14-16
INTRODUCTION: “THE NIGHT THE SHADOWS STARTED TALKING”
EXAMPLE: “THE SALE OF THE CENTURY” A man walks into a pawn shop carrying the Mona Lisa. He slides it across the counter like it’s a yard sale leftover. The clerk squints, shrugs, and says, “Eh… I’ll give you thirty dollars.” And the man says, “Deal.” Absurd. Insane. Unthinkable. Yet Judas did worse. He pawned the Prince of Peace for the price of a crippled slave. He traded Heaven’s Treasure for hell’s trinkets. He sold the Savior for silver—and discovered too late that the devil always pays in counterfeit coins.
I. THE APPROACH OF A TREACHEROUS HEART
Matthew 26:14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, Judas Never Was a Saved by Jesus Person! John 6:70-71 John 6:64 He had a Recognition as a disciple without a relationship with Jesus. However, Judas didn’t begin as a villain and a Jesus Betrayer. He began as a disciple, a treasurer, a trusted friend.
A. His Position - “One of the twelve”
B. His Progression - Sin starts subtly
C. His Pretending - Judas looked the part
II. THE APPEAL OF A TEMPTING OFFER Matthew 26:15 And said unto them, what will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. Judas didn’t wait to be tempted - he initiated the negotiation. Because Judas was a Thief: John 12:6
A. The Question of Greed “What will YOU give ME?”
B. The Quest for Gain He wanted silver more than the Savior.

A. The Price - Thirty pieces the cost of a crippled slave.
Ecclesiastes 5:10
B. The Problem - Judas undervalued Jesus.
He didn’t just betray Christ - he discounted Him.
C. The Paradox - Sin always sells cheap the devil offers shiny coins but they rust quickly.
D. The Pattern - Today Every time we choose sin over Christ, we repeat Judas’s transaction.
IV. THE AGENDA OF A TREASONOUS SPIRIT Matthew 26:16
And from that time, he sought opportunity to betray him.
A. Sin Seeks Strategy. Judas didn’t stumble into betrayal - he scheduled it.
B. Sin Seeks Secrecy. He waited for the right moment. The right crowd.
The right darkness.
C. Sin Seeks Satisfaction. But sin never satisfies - it only intensifies.
D. Sin Seeks to Sellout. The Kiss of Betrayal. Matthew 26:47-50
V. THE APPLICATION FOR A TEMPTED CHURCH
A. Judas is not a museum exhibit - he is a mirror.
We betray Jesus today when we:
B. But grace still calls Jesus knew Judas’s heart - and still washed his feet. Still offered grace. Still extended mercy.
C. The Call to Commitment.
Don’t trade eternal treasure for temporary trinkets.
Don’t let the devil buy what Jesus already paid for.
Don’t sell your Savior for silver when He bought your soul with blood.
Pray for the campers this week. Pray for their safety and that many will be saved.
