THREE MOTTOS IN LIFE Text: Luke 10:25-37

Introduction: During this time the Samaritans had desecrated the Jewish temple by spreading dead person’s bones throughout. In turn, the Jews cursed the Samaritan, considered his food as swine flesh, and was told to suffer rather than receive help from a Samaritan. Even before this action the Jews despised the Samaritans because they were a half-bred people (half Jew and half Gentile). In the world today I see three basic mottos or philosophies of life people live by. These mottos or listed here in the book of Luke by Jesus. Which motto or philosophy best represents you?

I. THE ROBBER’S MOTTO Luke 10:30

“WHAT’S YOURS IS MINE: I’LL TAKE IT” Ephesians 4:28

II. THE RELIGIONIST’S MOTTO Luke 10:31

"WHAT’S MINE IS MINE: I’LL KEEP IT” Proverbs 11:4, II Corinthians 8:5. We kindle kindness by acts of love in practical & personal ways. Kindness is love in shoe leather, but its chief enemy is busyness.

III. THE RESCUER’S MOTTO Luke 10:33-35

“WHAT’S MINE IS YOURS: I’LL SHARE IT”

A strong sense of duty makes us do things well; but a heart full of love makes us do things beautifully well. I John 3:14, John 13:35

The good Samaritan is an example of Christian service for each of us. Jesus said in Luke 10:37 “Go, and do thou likewise.”

1.) He went to him BENDING over him.   Luke 10:34

2.) He bound up his wounds MENDING him. Luke 10:34, Gal. 6:1-2

3.) He took care of him TENDING to him Luke 10:34

4.) He took two pence and gave them to the host, how he is SPENDING for him. Luke 10:35, II Corinthians 12:15

5.) He said, “I will repay thee”. LENDING Luke 10:35

Christian Service is nothing but Love in Work Clothes Ephesians 4:32, II Corinthians 5:17, Matthew 25:21, John 14:15, Philippians 4:13

Common sense keeps us real; a sense of humor keeps us smiling; financial sense keeps the bills paid; and spiritual sense keeps us faithful.
