Introduction: I John 5:3-5 and I Corinthians 10:12-13
Man deals temptation in one of three ways.
A.) He gives into it. B.) He fights it. C.) The right way
I. The Subjects Of Temptation
A.) Who is Tempted? All are Tempted!
I Corinthians 10:12-13 ,Proverbs 16:18To Be Tempted Is Not A Sin! Jesus was tempted without sin. Hebrews 4:15
If there was no temptation, there would be no victory. James 1:2
II. The Source Of Temptation
I Corinthians 10:13 All temptation is common
A.) The World - The External Foe I John 2:15,
Romans 12:2, James 4:4 Example: I Peter 3:1-4
B.) The Flesh - The Internal Foe Romans 12:1, Gal. 5:17
C.) The Devil - The Infernal Foe Ephesians 6:12
III. The Seat Of Temptation
A.) You are created Body – Soul – Spirit. I Thess. 5:23-24
1. Body – With our body we have physical life and know the physical world beneath us. (Greek, "soma")
2. Soul – With our souls we have physiological life and know the world within you and the world around you. The word soul in Greek is PSUCHE or PSYCHIATRIC. The soul is the real you, the ego, the man that lives within the house – your will, your sense of humor, your likes, and your dislikes. This is you!(Greek, "psyche")
3. Spirit – With our spirit we have a spiritual life and know the world above us. John 4:24, Romans 8:16 (Greek " Pneuma")
B.) When are these right?
When our Body is right. We are Healthy. When our Soul is right, we are Happy. When our Spirit is right, we are Holy.
C.) The World, the Flesh and the Devil match up to the Body, Soul and Spirit.
1. The World wars against the Soul. Lot and Abraham
2. The Flesh wars against the Body. David and Bathsheba
3. The Devil wars against the Spirit. Peter in Luke 22:31-32
D.) What about I John 2:15-16?
They line up with: The World – Lust of the Eyes, The Flesh – Lust of the Flesh, The Devil - Pride of Life
E.) Examples of being tempted by all three at one time.
1. Adam and Eve Genesis 3:6 “good for food” – Lust of the Flesh – The Flesh “pleasant to the eyes” – Lust of Eyes – The World “desired to make one wise” – Pride of Life – The Devil
2. Jesus Christ Matthew 4:1-11 FLESH “command that these stones be made bread”(4:3-4)DEVIL “cast thyself down” (4:5-6) WORLD “all these things will I give thee” (4:8-10)

V. The Subduing of Temptation
I Corinthians 10:12-13 “. . . But will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. There are three key words:
A. ) The World – The External foe, the key word is FAITH. I John 5:4-5, I John 2:15
B.) The Flesh - The Internal foe, the key word is FLIGHT II Timothy 2:22, I Corinthians 6:18 The way to escape is the Kings Way. . . .two legs and a hard run. Just get out of there! Example: Joseph and Potipher’s wife. Proverbs 6:27-28,Romans 13:14
C.) The Devil – The Infernal foe, the key word is Fight. James 4:7, Ephesians 6:12
The Three C’s of Victory Revelation 12:11
1. Calvary “And the overcame him by the blood of the lamb”
2. Confession “and by the word of their testimony (their mouth) …”
3. Commitment “ . . . and they loved not their lives unto death.”
