OUR GLORIOUS HIGH PRIEST AND A NEW COVENANT
Hebrews 8:1-13 (Also some in Chapters 9 and 10)
INTRODUCTION: Hebrews 8 Deals with two major points: Our Glorious High Priest and A New Covenant God Has for Us Today!
I. OUR GLORIOUS HIGH PRIEST Hebrews 8:1
A.) JESUS IS THE MONARCH ON HIGH SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD Hebrews 8:1 the phrase "the majesty in the heavens.

C.) JESUS IS THE MEDIATOR OF A BETTER COVENANT AND HAS OBTAINED A MORE EXCELLENT MINISTRY. Hebrews 8:6
1. A BETTER MINISTRY Hebrews 8:6 In contrast with the ministry of the Levitical priests- Their ministry was simply a shadow of His ministry:

2. AS MEDIATOR OF A BETTER COVENANT Hebrews 8:6
By His death on the cross, Jesus has become the Mediator of the new better covenant. Hebrews 9:15, Hebrews 12:24 Better than what?
Better than the "first covenant." Hebrews 8:7
3. ESTABLISHED ON BETTER PROMISES Hebrews 8:6
“Which was established upon better promises.”, Hebrews 8:10-12, II Peter 1:3–4
II. OUR NEW COVENANT Hebrews 8:7-13
A new covenant in which Jesus has already been described as: The "surety" (guarantor) Hebrews 7:22 The "Mediator" Hebrews 8:6 In both passages, this covenant was described as a "better" covenant Better than what? Better in what way? In Hebrews 8, we learn the answer.

2. BETTER BECAUSE OF THE "PROMISES" CONTAINED IN IT

A.) SOME THINGS TO NOTE:
GOD'S PROMISE OF A NEW COVENANT Hebrews 7-9,13
1. THE FIRST COVENANT WAS NOT FAULTLESS... Hebrews 8:7
The Levitical priesthood could not bring perfection - Hebrews 7:11The Law made nothing perfect, Hebrews 7:18–20,10:1–4,11
2. THE PEOPLE OF THE FIRST COVENANT WERE ALSO AT FAULT... Hebrews 8:9-10 God found fault because they did not continue in His covenant - Jeremiah 11:7–14
B.) SOME THINGS TO KNOW:
1. GOD PROMISED A NEW COVENANT
Promised in: Jeremiah 31:31–34
2. THE NEW COVENANT HAS MADE THE FIRST COVENANT "OBSOLETE" Hebrews 8:13
C.) SOME THINGS TO BELIEVE
GOD'S HAS PROMISES IN THE NEW COVENANT Hebrews 10-12
1. PROMISES THAT WILL BE INWARD AND SPIRITUAL Hebrews 8:10
“. I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts:”, James 1:21–22, I Peter 1:22–23
2. PROMISES THAT WILL PROVIDE A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD Hebrews 8:10 “and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:”, II Corinthians 6:16–18, I Peter 2:9–10, Rev. 21:1–73.
3. PROMISES THAT WILL BE WITH ALL PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE LORD Hebrews 8:11
4. PROMISES THAT WILL PROVIDE TRUE FORGIVENESS FOR SIN Hebrews 8:12, Hebrews 10:1–4,11
CONCLUSION: Such are "The Promises of God's New Covenant"... As foretold through the prophet Jeremiah and fulfilled through the coming of Jesus and His death on the cross-- By virtue of "better promises", Christ is truly the Mediator of a "better covenant"! The entrance terms of this New Covenant are simple: They involve faith in Christ and a confession of that faith: Romans 10:8–13 The promised blessings of the New Covenant await any and all who are willing to so respond to the gospel of Christ!
