NOTING THE NATIVITY
THE MIRACLE BIRTH OF JESUS
Luke 2:1-14
Introduction: The Miracle Birth of Jesus Is the account of God entering human history in the most unexpected and humble way, fulfilling centuries of prophecy and revealing His plan of salvation through the incarnation of His Son. The Nativity story does not begin in Bethlehem but starts before this world was created and stretches back across the Old Testament through prophetic promises that prepared the people of Israel for the coming of the Messiah. These foundations help us understand why the arrival of Jesus in such simple surroundings carries such profound significance for the world.
I. THE CIRCUMSTANCES CONCERNING JESUS CHRIST’S BIRTH
On that eventful night the angels proclaimed and announce officially and publicly: Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. We cannot examine the circumstances that surround the birth of Jesus without being impressed with the element of the supernatural. Think of:
A. The Miracle of a Divine Performance Luke 2:11,1:35
B. The Miracle of a Divine Providence Luke 2:11
C. The Miracle of Divine Prophecy Luke 2:11, Micah 5:2, Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah 7:14 Out of the 333 prophecies in the Old Testament concerning the first advent of our Lord, a fair number were fulfilled at His birth.
II. THE CRIME CONCERNING JESUS CHRIST’S BIRTH
Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manager, because there was no room for them in the inn.
A. The Sin of Woeful Ignorance Luke 2:7
The innkeeper is without excuse for his ignorance concerning this tremendous event. The same God who rewarded the anticipation of the shepherds, the investigation of the wise men, and the expectation of Simeon and Anna, could have satisfied this innkeeper of long ago.
B. The Sin of Willful Indifference Luke 2:7, Romans 8:32
C. The Sin of Worldly Involvement Luke 2:7, John 1:11
III. THE CLAIMS CONCERNING JESUS CHRIST’S BIRTH
Luke 2:11-12
This angelic announcement spells out God’s claim upon every life.
A. There Is a Saving Claim Upon Your Life
“Unto you is born a Savior” (Luke 2:11). When the angel appeared to Joseph to announce the coming birth of Christ, he said: Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
B. There Is a Spiritual Claim Upon Your Life
“Unto you is born a Savior, which is Christ” (Luke 2:11).
C. There Is a Sovereign Claim Upon Your Life
Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Romans 14:9
IV. THE CELEBRATION CONCERNING JESUS CHRIST’S BIRTH Luke 2:8-14
A. The Celebration of The Shepherds Luke 2:8-12,15-16B. The Celebration of The Angels
1. It Was a Heavenly Praise
2. It Was the Highest Praise
Conclusion: We live in a dark world for the most part! Many may ask “What is the world coming to?” It’s coming to Jesus. His is the cradle that will rock the world. You Can believe that! One day our dear Savior is going to step out of the glory again. And those blessed nail-pierced feet will touch the Mount of Olives, and there will be a great earthquake. And Jesus is going to make His way to Jerusalem, “and the government shall be upon his shoulder.” (Isaiah 9:6) There is no real lasting peace today. There can be no real peace without the Prince of Peace. The answer to this world’s problems is the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. And the hope of the individual, the hope of the church, the hope of the family, the hope of this nation, and the hope of this world is Jesus Christ.
