Knowing Jesus Christ, The Savior
Colossians 1:12-23
This is one of the great passages in the Bible about Jesus Christ.
It compares to John 1:1-5.  It shows Who Christ is from three most significant relationships.
I. Christ's Relationship to the Gospel
(Colossians 1:13, 14, 18, 20-23)  Christ is the Key to the Gospel.
It is "In whom" (Colossians 1:14) that salvation comes to mankind.
1.  The Rescue in Christ.  "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness" (Colossians 1:13).
2.  The Removing to Christ.  "Hath translated us unto the kingdom of his dear Son" (Colossians 1:13).
3. The Redeeming by Christ. "In whom we have redemption through his blood" (Colossians 1:14).
4. The Remission by Christ. Even the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:14).
5. The Reconciliation by Christ. Colossians 1:20-21, Romans 5:1
6. The Recipients of Christ. "If ye continue in the faith" (Colossians 1:23).
7. The Righteousness by Christ.  Colossians 1:22  In the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight:        Colossians 1:18  II. Christ's Relationship to God
(Colossians 1:15, 17, 19)
1. The Communication by Christ. "Who is the image of the invisible God" (Colossians 1:15).
2. The Completeness of Christ. "It pleased the Father that in Him should all fulness dwell" (Colossians 1:19).
3. The Continualness of Christ.  "He is before all things" (Colossians 1:17). John 1:1,John1:14
III. Christ's Relationship to the Galaxies (Colossians 1:15-17)
1. The Maker of Creation. Colossians 1:16, John 1:3
His creating covered everything (cp. John 1:3). First, Space. "All things." Colossians 1:16
Second, Substance. "All things." Colossians 1:16
Third, Souls.  "Thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers." Colossians 1:16 This refers to all creatures—angelic or human.
Genesis 1:1  “In the beginning” (TIME)  Past, Present, Future
“God”  Father, Son, Holy Spirit “created the heaven” (SPACE)
Length, Width, Height
“and the earth”    (MATTER)   Solid, Liquid, Gas
The Creation of the TIME, SPACE, and MATTER Happen  Simultaneously!  WHY? If you had MATTER and no SPACE, where would you put it? If you had SPACE and MATTER and no TIME, when would you put it?
2. The Master of Creation.  "The firstborn of every creature" (Colossians 1:15). Philippians 2:11
3. The Maintainer of Creation. "By Him all things consist" (Colossians 1:17).
4. The Mission of Creation.  "All things were created... for Him" (Colossians 1:16).  Revelation 4:11
There are some people who seem to not know why they are here on earth. This text is their answer. They are here because Christ wanted them here. They are here for Him.  That gives the greatest purpose of existence known to mankind.
