Matthew 9:1-9, Mark 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-26
JESUS HEALS AND FORGIVES!
JESUS HEALS AND FORGIVES!
Matthew 9:1-9, Mark 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-26
This another wonderful miracle of Jesus Forgives and Heals a man is written in the books of Matthew, Mark and Luke. We will be harmonizing all three of these books to get a more complete picture for this sermon.
I. JESUS PUBLICIZED TO BE IN THE HOUSE Mark 2:1-2
II. JESUS PREACHES THE WORD OF GOD
III. JESUS PERCEIVES ALL WHO HAVE FAITH
Matthew 9:2, Mark 2:2-5, Hebrews 11:6
A.) It Was a Compassionate Faith Mark 2:3
B.) It Was a Creative Faith Mark 2:4
C.) It Was a Cooperative Faith Mark 2:3
D.) It Was a Confident Faith Matthew 9:2, Mark 2:5, Luke 5:20
E.) It Was a Courageous Faith
F.) It Was a Costly Faith Matthew 16:26
IV. Jesus Pardons and Forgives All Those Who Come to Him in Faith. Matthew 9:2 “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.” It is sin, in all of its ugliness and horror that stands between the sinner and God,
Isaiah 59:2, Psalm 103:12, I John 1:7
V. JESUS IS CRITICIZED BY THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES Matthew 9:3-5, Luke 5:21, Mark 2:7
A.) The Criticizers Protest the Pardoning of Sins
Matthew 9:3-6 The culprits in the protest. Matthew 9:3,
Luke 5:21,17
B.) The Criticizers the Claim “This man blasphemeth” Matt 9:3
C.) The Lord Jesus’ Cognizance of The Criticizers
“Jesus knowing their thoughts” Matthew 9:4
D.) The Lord Jesus’ Condemnation of The Criticizers
“Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?” Matthew 9:4
The challenge for the protest. “Whether is easier, to say, thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?” Matthew 9:5
VI. JESUS HEALS A MAN THAT HAD PALSY Matthew 9:4-7,
Mark 2:12, Luke 5:25
Notice the Precept for the Pardon Matthew 9:6, 7
A.) The Specifics of The Precept. Matthew 9:6
First, The Rising Part. “Arise.”
Second, The Rolling Part. “Take up thy bed.”
Third, The Returning Part. “Go unto thine house.”
B.) The Submission to The Precept. Matthew 9:7
And he arose, and departed to his house.
First, the capability for submission.
Second, the completeness of the submission. Luke 5:25
VII. JESUS’ WORDS AND ACTIONS TOTALLY AMAZED THE PEOPLE Matthew 9:8, Mark 2:12, Luke 5:26
A.) The Multitudes Praise Examine
1. The Disbelief in The Praise. Matthew 9:8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marveled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men. That they “glorified” God simply means they believed it was Divine power that worked the healing. They were moved emotionally but not spiritually.
2. The Disrespect in The Praise. Matthew 9:8 “had given such power unto men.” The word “men” says volumes about their unbelief in Christ. They missed the lesson completely.
3. The Disregard in The Praise. The people focused only on the healing; no mention is made of the forgiveness of sins which was the greatest work. Their interest was only in the healing.
Conclusion: So, Jesus heals the man and the paralyzed man gets up, picks up his mat, elbows his way through the crowd and leaves! He simply gets up and walks away! His heart was healed first then his flesh followed. That is the way things go! When the Lord forgives a person’s sins, that person becomes a “new creature”:
