INTRODUCTION Christian maturity proceeds through four stages:
Help Me, Tell Me, Show Me, Follow Me !
The problem in many churches is spiritual immaturity.
I Corinthians 2:1 – 3:3 speaks of three categories of persons:
1. Natural I Corinthians 2:14
2. Carnal I Corinthians 3:1-3
3. Spiritual I Corinthians 3:1
I. GROWTH IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH THE NATURAL MAN!
A.) How the Bible describes the natural man: Ephesians 2:3
The natural man has no spiritual activation, no spiritual appreciation, no spiritual appropriation.
B.) The natural man has worldly wisdom, rather than spiritual wisdom.
I Corinthians 2:1-5
Worldly wisdom is dangerous, deceptive, and demonic.
II. GROWTH IS IMPAIRED WITH THE CARNAL MAN!
A.) Retarded development I Corinthians 3:1
B.). Restricted diet I Corinthians 3:2
There are three stages in the Christian life:
1. When you are fed. 2. When you’re able to feed yourself. 3. When you feed others. Hebrews 5:12-14
C.) Repeated divisions I Corinthians 3:3
III. GROWTH IS EMPOWERED WITH THE SPIRITUAL MAN!
God’s Miracle Grow!
The Spirit of God and the Word of God - I Corinthians 2:11-12
A.) The spiritual man lives by the Spirit. Romans 8:9
B.) The spiritual man learns from the Spirit.
I Corinthians 2:12-13
C.) The spiritual man is liberated through the Spirit.
I Corinthians 2:15, II Corinthians 3:17
Four identified levels of Christian Maturity!
1. I’m going to do what I want regardless of any thought for God.
2. If God gives me what I want then I will give him what he wants.
3. I will give God what he wants with faith that he will give me what I want.
4. I will give God what he wants regardless of any thought for myself.
Maturity begins to grow when you can sense your concerns for others outweighing your concern for yourself. If you are alive, you grow, death begins where growth ends.
