The Thankful One

Text: Luke 17:11-19

Introduction: This is a painful, penetrating question; especially if you were one of the unthankful nine. Our degree of thankfulness shows our degree of maturity as Christians.  The finest test of character is seen in the amount and the power of gratitude we have.Thankful thinking makes thankful people.

A Christian should always be thankful.

Ephesians 5:20, I Thessalonians 5:18Hebrews 13:15

Psalm 100:4, Colossians 2:7II Timothy 3:1-3

A.) For What He Has Given Us In The Past  II Corinthians 9:15

B.) For What He Is Giving Us In The Present II Corinthians 2:14

C.) For What He Will Surely Give Us In The Future I Corinthians 15:57

Notice the attributes of this thankful leper:

I. THIS LEPER WAS A HUMBLE MAN.

Luke 17:16, Luke 17:13

BEWARE: IF YOU ARE NOT HUMBLY GRATEFUL YOU MIGHT BECOME GRUMBLY HATEFUL !!

II. THIS LEPER WAS A PRAISEFUL MAN.

Luke 17:16,  “giving Him thanks” , Colossians 3:15, Psalm 105:1

III. THIS LEPER WAS A GIVING MAN.

Luke 17:16, “giving Him Thanks”,  Colossians 3:17,

I Corinthians 8:5

Contentment is not getting everything you desire or want, but it is wanting & being thankful for what you already have.

Discontentment will make a rich man poor, & contentment will make a poor man rich.

IV. THIS LEPER WAS A PRAYERFUL MAN.

Luke 17:16, Ephesians 6:18

The very things we have taken for granted someone else is praying for right now! Lord Please For Give Us For Our Unthankfulness.

  V. THIS LEPER WAS A WHOLE MAN.

Luke 17:17-19, I Thessalonians 5:23-24

II Corinthians 9:15, Ephesians 5:20

HERE IS A THANKSGIVING TEST?

If a recording angel has been following you around for the last month recording every word you have spoken, every thought you have thought, and interpreted every bodily response to every situation you have encountered, would such a record convince a jury that you truly a person who lives a life filled with thanksgiving?

Or would you be convicted of being an ungrateful person?

An even harder question is: What is my first response when faced with difficulty?  Am I thankful or unthankful?
