THE LOST SHEEP

Luke 15:3-7       Introduction:

Let’s examine these verses together today as we think about The Lost Sheep.

I. THE SHEPHERD’S COMPASSION

Luke 15:4 

A. For A Lost Sheep

B. For A Loved Sheep

First, He said itJeremiah 31:3.John 3:16

Second, He showed it, Romans 5:6-8! 

C. For A Lone Sheep Luke 15:7. John 10:3

II. THE SHEPHERD’S COMMITMENT

Luke 15:5

A. It Was A Sacrificial Commitment

John 10:11John 15:13, Philippians 2:5-8 

B. It Was A Successful Commitment

 It is finished”, John 19:30Isaiah 50:7, Mark 10:45 , John 6:37-40

III. THE SHEPHERD’S CONQUEST

Luke 15:6

A. It Involves Rescue

All of God’s sheep are delivered from :

1. The Penalty of their sins John 3:18 ,John 3:36 

2. The  Power of their sins Romans  6:11-14 

3. The Presence of their sins   Revelation 21:27  

B. It Involves Rest

1.  They are “kept by the power of God  I Peter 1:5

2.  They rest upon His precious promises for their salvation  John 10:28, John 6:47,Hebrews 9:12  

3. The Lord’s sheep are saved by grace and it is grace that sees them home

Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 11:6, Luke 19:10, “to seek and to save”; 

John 6:37“him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out”; 

Hebrews 13:5, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee”; John 3:16; John 5:24; John 6:47; John 10:28. 

C. It Involves Rejoicing 

 

Because fellowship has been restored, Eph. 2:12-17; Job 9:33, Philippians 4:4
