Description

ELEVATE YOUR

SPIRITUAL LIFE

TEXT: Colossians 3:1-4

INTRODUCTION: The Christian life is not a state or condition. It is a direction. It is walking upward, in the direction of heaven. It is elevating our living above this old earth.  Romans 8:15

Notice three thoughts from the text about elevated spiritual living.

I. THE DESIRE FOR AN ELEVATED SPIRITUAL LIFE Colossians 3:1, Romans 8:16

II. THE DUTIES OF AN ELEVATED SPIRITUAL LIFE

Colossians 3:1-2

A.) An outward preference to "... seek those things."

Five things that are "above:" 1. God's presence 2. God's provision 3. God's direction 4. God's protection 5. God's reward

B.) An inward preoccupation to

"... set your affection." Five disciplines aid our minds: 1. Attend Church 2. Bible reading, study and memorization 3. Prayer 4. Soul winning 5. Tithing

III. THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ELEVATED   SPIRITUAL LIFE  Colossians 3:3-4

A.) By Being Dead To Evil "for ye are dead"

B.) By Being United To Christ "... your life is hid with Christ in God."

C.) By Christ Being Our Life “...Christ, who is our life,”, John 16:13-14

D.) By Longing For His Appearing “...shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”, Titus 2:13-15

CONCLUSION: The Christian must be careful to build and live his or her life in the heavenlies, not on the earth.  If we build our lives close to this earth we will be like the bird who built her nest in a bush near the ground.  When her chicks were hatched, a cat easily found the nest, killed and ate all her brood.

Elevate your spiritual life, don't build your nest near the ground.
