Good God For Bad Times REVISITED

A Good God For

Bad Times

Text: Psalm 46:1-11

Introduction: The dreaded Assyrian Army (II Kings 18:17 and 19:1-7) had come marching out of the north, pushing southward through Syria into Israel and on south to Judah.  Everything behind was made bare; swept clean by the foraging troops; or it was burned to the ground. Smoke-blackened ruins, strewn with the corpses of the dead, and buzzards were the only things left behind. The Assyrian Army had set its eyes on Israel.  The times were bad; yet, the Psalmist knew He had a good God.

During our time of trouble, we all have something we need to know, believe, see, and witness.  In bad times we have:

Psalm 46:1

A refuge is a place where one can go quietly for protection. The Six Cities of Refuge: (Numbers 35); Joshua 20:1-9

These cities, and their names, typify for us the salvation we have in Christ, and other blessings we have in Him besides.

1. Bezer: Our Salvation

2. Kadesh: Our Sanctuary

3. Shechem: Our Strength

4. Hebron: Our Fellowship

5. Ramoth: Our Elevation

6. Golan: Our Joy

Hebrews 6:18-19

Psalm 46:7

Three times the word Selah is written in this Psalm. Selah is an old Hebrew musical term which means “to pause and lift up”.  A free rendering of the word could be.  We must know that God is our refuge.  “There! What do you think about that?” must believe God is with us. We must look around and see the great things Our God has done and will do, and we must witness the awesome exaltation of God.  SelahHas it ever occurred to you that nothing has ever occurred to God? It is also good to know that; God the Father, God the Son, and God The Holy Spirit has never met in emergency sessions.

Hebrews 13:5, Matthew 6:26, I Peter 5:7, Psalm 46:11

Psalm 46:8

A.) The Person Of God

B.) The Plan Of God

C.) The Presence Of God

D.) The Products Of God

Psalm 46:9-10  God is in control!

We  make history every day. Today maybe uncomfortable, confusing, messy, & bewildering; but tomorrow it will be history.

Always remember - Life is a cup with two handles on it, one Faith and the other Fear. Fear deludes and darkens; Faith brightens and enlightens.

Psalm 118:24
