A Philosophy To Live By And To Die By

Reading: Philippians 1:20-25

Text: Philippians 1:21

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Introduction:

If you are not ready to die, you are not ready to live! We tell people to get right with God, you might die! This is true,  but we need also to say get right with God, you might live. A-men!   Your philosophy for life and death will determine the quality of your home, your relationship with your wife and children, your church membership, your community, your own personal well being, and Joy.

Paul had a heads I win, tails I win philosophy!

“For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

I. What Did Paul Mean When He Said, “For Me To Live Is Christ”?

A.) Christ is the Source of his life!

Philippians 1:6 , John 10:10, John 11:25. John 14:6   Example - Adam

B.)  Christ is the Subject of his life!

Philippians 1:12

C.) Christ is the Standard for his life!

Philippians 3:14  Example: John 1:1,14   (Jesus was “full of grace and truth”- So should we be full of grace and truth)

Example: “Master,  the stars are falling” Men, let’s set Remember  Jesus said that we are the light, and we are to be the salt.  We are to be light to Illuminate, and we are to be salt to penetrate. (Matthew 5:13-16). Jesus said, “If the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing,..” Periodic Christianity is perpetual Hypocrisy.  All men need to have Jesus Christ as the standard for their lives.                  (Joshua 24:14-16)

D.) Christ is the Song of his life!

Philippians 4:4, I Thessalonians 5:16, Psalm 137:4,

Psalm 51:8,Psalm 51:12

E.) Christ is the Satisfaction of his life!

Philippians 4:11-12

F.)  Christ is the Strength of his life!

Philippians 4:13

G.) Christ is the Supply of his life!

Philippians 4:19  Note: not out of His riches “but according to”

II. What Did Paul Mean When He Said, “To Die Is Gain”

Philippians 1:21, Philippians 1:23

Let’s look at the word, “Depart”

A.) It was a Sailor’s Term

B.) It was a Military Term

C.) It was a Political Term

D.) It was a Farmer’s Term

When I depart, I will sail off like that Sailor; fold up the tent like a soldier; be set free like one who was imprisoned; laying down the burden like that ox, and I will be at home at last.

Conclusion: If you do not have a philosophy to live by,  you do not have one to die by!

TEST:

FOR ME TO LIVE IS __________?

Paul’s answer was Christ!

If you had to put it in one word, what would your answer be? Some folks’ answer would be Money, Pleasure, Education, Business, Family, or Ministry.

If  you used any answer other than Christ, you would have to finish the sentence this way: “And to die is Lost!”

Philippians 1:21  “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” This is THE PHILOSOPHY TO LIVE BY AND TO DIE BY!
